NFL Draft: Re-drafting the star-studded 2014 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Original Pick: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina Tar Heels
After Jadeveon Clowney steals Anthony Barr’s original landing spot of the Minnesota Vikings, he does not fall far at all, landing with the Detroit Lions at the No. 10 overall spot, just one spot off where he actually went.
The Lions used a top-10 pick five years ago to select tight end Eric Ebron. While he has been a hit for the Indianapolis Colts, making the Pro Bowl after departing Detroit, he had the bust label applied to him when he was a member of the Lions.
Thus far in his career, Barr has tallied 338 tackles, 30 of which have come behind the line of scrimmage, hit opposing quarterbacks 31 times and gotten home for a sack 13.5 times. Barr has also picked off one pass and forced seven fumbles for the Vikings defense as well.
Barr has made the Pro Bowl in four of his five seasons in the league, and has been the starter for the Vikings all five seasons. The Lions, however, have struggled to field an efficient group at the second level of their defense, and it has often times led to the demise of that side of the football.
To have the opportunity to add a versatile and athletic backer such as Barr to round out the top-10 of this re-draft is an opportunity that the Lions cannot pass on.
