NFL Draft: Re-drafting the star-studded 2014 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Original Pick: OT Greg Robinson, Auburn Tigers
The St. Louis Rams fell in love with the athletic, but raw left tackle from Auburn University in Greg Robinson after he tested off of the charts at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The Rams knew that Robinson would take some molding, but they never quite understood just how raw he was coming out of Auburn. After three years with the Rams, he was traded to the Detroit Rams for a sixth-round pick.
If the Rams could go back and Aaron Donald was still on the board with the No. 2 overall pick, without a doubt they would not pass on his talent and select him. Oh wait, he is a Ram already. Well, in this case he would become drafted by St. Louis earlier than he was the first time around back in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh.
In his five seasons with the Rams, Donald has won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018. Named 2014’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year as well, Donald has been named a Pro Bowler in every season that he has been in the league. He has also been an All-Pro in four of his five seasons as a professional.
Throughout his career, Donald has recorded 59 sacks, 97 tackles for loss, 149 quarterback hits and forced 13 fumbles for the Rams. With the No. 2 overall pick, the Rams are still able to land Donald by selecting him instead of Robinson.
