Round 3, Pick 75: Trysten Hill, DL, UCF

Could this pick be used as a future Mike Daniels’ replacement? With Daniels’ expiring contract in 2020, it’s not out of the question. In this scenario, the Packers select UCF defensive lineman Trysten Hill at pick No. 75. Hill has the talent of a top-50 player, but character concerns have caused his draft stock to fall during the pre-draft process.

Recruited by head coach Scott Frost, Hill was a star in the middle of UCF’s defense during their 2017 undefeated season. When Frost left for Nebraska, Hill fell firmly into new head coach Josh Heupel’s dog house. For whatever reason, Hill’s playing time went down exponentially in 2018, as he started only one game. He still managed to rack up 36 tackles (10.5 for loss) and three sacks.

"“[Hill] barely played in the team’s Fiesta Bowl loss to LSU. He made it clear he was unhappy about his playing time after the game, and did not thank the team’s current coaching staff in the note in which he made his declaration for early entry in the NFL draft.” – NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein"

It remains unknown why Hill didn’t play as much as he should’ve last season. But that doesn’t mean Green Bay shouldn’t take a chance on him. His athletic upside is tremendous (6-3, 308 pounds; 5.04-second 40-time; 28 bench reps; 35-inch vertical) coupled with his ability as a player mean Hill could be worth the risk.
