14. Atlanta Falcons: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson

Head coach Dan Quinn enters a critical season in 2019. After taking the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl following the 2016 season, he started to see a decline on the field. After an early postseason exit in 2017, he then saw his club miss the playoffs entirely in 2018.

The reason for the decline is simple — the defense has taken a step back. They’ve tried addressing this through the draft recently and continue to do so here with the selection of Clelin Ferrell out of Clemson. A tenacious pass rusher, Ferrell is also a complete defensive end according to Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network.

"“Clelin Ferrell projects as a high impact defensive end at the NFL level. Ferrell is physically capable of exploding out of his three point stances but prefers to win with his hands on blockers as compared to relying on speed. His technical prowess, hands and transitional skills as a rusher will allow him to defeat well placed tackles off the edge. An ace run defender, Ferrell is a three down player immediately who should easily step into a starting role.” — Crabbs, The Draft Network"

Ferrell was the best defensive lineman on the Tigers National Championship team, which has three players capable of being taken in the first round. He was also a player who returned for 2018 despite being draft eligible and it did improve his stock as a player.
