15. Washington Redskins: Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan

The Falcons have a head coach entering a very important season due to their struggles in 2018. They’re followed in the draft by another team who has a head coach needing a big season. Jay Gruden had his Washington Redskins in first place in the NFC East until he lost his starting quarterback, Alex Smith.

Washington then lost Colt McCoy as well, which made their 7-9 record understandable. The problem is, that was their record the season before and they didn’t have significant injuries under center. With that being said, Gruden needs to prove he’s the man for the job which makes this year important.

With Smith still out with his broken leg, Gruden will have to work with Case Keenum as his starting quarterback for at least this season. That should lead to a quarterback being chosen but it’s not likely to be in Round 1 without a significant trade — or fall from one of the top prospects. Neither happens in this mock so Washington takes Michigan defensive lineman Rashan Gary and beefs up their defense — in hopes of making the offense’s job easier.

Gary likely plays end in the Redskins three-man line and he can be a beast in this role. He’s still refining his technique, but he has incredible athleticism for a man nearly 280 pounds. Once he puts it all together, he can be special.
