18. Minnesota Vikings: Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson

Somehow, the Minnesota Vikings just keep finding money. It looked as though they would lose linebacker Anthony Barr in free agency as he had a deal with the New York Jets in place. Minnesota wanted him to stay, but knowing their cap situation, a departure made sense. Then, Barr suddenly changed course and agreed to a five-year $67.5 million deal to stay with the Vikings.

Later, they gave wideout Adam Thielen an extension that covers four seasons and will pay him $64 million. This is in addition to having Kirk Cousins on the books for a fully guaranteed $84 million over three seasons. They’ve also given big deals to Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter.

While it’s impressive that they have retained all these stars, the Vikings did have to say goodbye to one big player in the 2019 offseason as defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson headed to the Cleveland Browns on a three-year, $36 million deal.

Losing Richardson will hurt the line but they’re able to replace him here with Clemson’s Christian Wilkins. The second member of the Tigers line to be selected, Wilkins also decided to return for his senior season and help Clemson win the National title. Wilkins is capable of playing either defensive tackle position and would make the departure of Richardson less painful.
