6. New York Giants: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

After the New York Giants completely fell apart under the direction of head coach Ben McAdoo, they turned things over to a new regime. Dave Gettleman came in as the general manager and Pat Shurmur took the head coaching duties.

This seemed like a perfect time to turn the page on the Eli Manning era and the Giants had a shot to land Sam Darnold. They opted to take a different route as running back Saquon Barkley was the pick and they stuck with Manning. Barkley did end up winning the Rookie of the Year but Manning didn’t exactly have a career resurgence and the Giants again had a losing record.

Looking to move toward the future, Gettleman and company finally add their new quarterback. Lately, they have kicked the tires on Drew Lock, but Dwayne Haskins edges him out here. While Haskins has limited starting experience, his one full season for Ohio State was a fantastic year that saw him throw for more than 4,800 yards with 50 touchdown passes against only eight picks.

The Giants keep saying Manning is the quarterback for 2019 and that he could play for several more seasons. There may be some truth to this as Manning could be the guy to start this season as they get Haskins’ feet wet. Considering his limited starting experience, this may not be the worst idea. Either way, they have to start moving on from Manning.
