Miami Dolphins: Don Shula, Dan Marino, Larry Csonka, Bob Griese

There’s no way anyone can talk about the greatest figures in NFL history and not mention Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula. Entering the 2019 NFL Season, Shula is still the winningest coach ever with 347 victories. 257 of those wins came during his remarkable 26-year run with the Dolphins.

During that span, he made it to five Super Bowls — winning two of them. Most impressively, Shula was the coach for the 1972 Dolphins team that is still the only undefeated franchise ever.

During that perfect season, the Dolphins relied heavily on their big fullback Larry Csonka. The 240-pounder had his second of three-straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons and he set the tone for their offense that season.

Another key player for Shula in this era was Bob Griese who started five games for them that year, but was under center for their Super Bowl win. Griese again was the starting quarterback following their title run the next season.

That year, he was 12-1 as a starter and led them to a win over the Minnesota Vikings. This was a different era and Griese won both titles without even throwing for 100 yards in either game. Regardless, he did what he had to in order to win and finished with a 92-56-3 record, while also orchestrating 19 game-winning drives.

The final spot goes to Dan Marino, who surpassed Griese on the all-time passing list for Miami — and more than doubled his career yardage. Marino was 147-93 as a starter for the Dolphins and despite never winning a Super Bowl, he always had them playing well.
