Round 1, Pick 29 (via Chiefs): Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson

After trading away Frank Clark, the Seahawks are certainly needy as it pertains to defensive end. As of right now, their starters would likely be Cassius Marsh and Rasheem Green or Quinton Jefferson. Whatever the case is there, those are fine pieces for a pass-rush rotation, but you don’t want them being the featured guys of a group. As such, the Seahawks use the pick acquired from Kansas City to address that need.

Clelin Ferrell is subsequently the pick for the Seahawks at No. 29 overall. The two-time national champion while with the Clemson Tigers is about as pro-ready of a prospect that you’ll find in the 2019 NFL Draft class, which fits the bill for what Seattle should be looking for when addressing the need at edge rusher.

Ferrell is available at the end of the first round because he doesn’t have the athletic upside of players like Josh Allen, Brian Burns or Rashan Gary. However, he does have an extremely polished set of skills coming off the edge, winning with technique, strength and football IQ off the edge, both in run and pass situations.

If he’s the selection at No. 29, there’s a chance that Ferrell won’t be as high of an impact player as Clark. Having said that, he’s a sure bet to be a plus contributor almost immediately, which the Seahawks desperately need given their current situation on defense.
