Arizona Cardinals: Final 7-round 2019 NFL mock draft sticks with Josh Rosen
By Larry Brake
Round 3: Jalen Hurd, WR, Baylor
Arizona begins to accumulate weapons for Rosen. Wide receivers play a huge role in the air raid offense. They select Jalen Hurd in the third round as the 65th overall selection.
Hurd began his collegiate career at Tennessee as a running back. He rushed for 2,635 yards with 20 touchdowns. He caught 67 passes for 492 yards with six touchdowns. He transferred to Baylor in 2017. After sitting out 2017, he played as a wide receiver the following season. Last season, he caught 69 passes for 949 yards with four touchdowns. He ran for 209 yards with three touchdowns as well.
Physically, Hurd stands 6-5, weighing 226 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 seconds at his pro day. At the Combine, he bench pressed 225 pounds 23 times.
Hurd gives the Cardinals a big strong receiver that could play in the slot or on the line. There is a chance that he could be employed as a goal-line back due to his size and athleticism. However, Kingsbury seems to have a pass-first offensive mind.
Hurd could benefit greatly under the mentorship of Larry Fitzgerald, the ageless one. Fitzgerald will show the rookie how to prepare like a professional wide receiver. Hurd could become the next Fitzgerald if he dodges the injury bug.
