. EDGE. Florida State. Brian Burns. 8. player. 50

It appears the Detroit Lions are letting Ziggy Ansah walk this offseason even though he has yet to sign with a team, and as a result, they are in need of a pass rusher. It just so happens the Lions have met with Florida State’s Brian Burns three times throughout the pre-draft process and could have him firmly in their sites.

If Burns were 15 to 20 pounds heavier, he would be talked about as the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the draft. However, he entered the combine with concerns about his weight, playing at about 235 pounds. He weighed in at the combine up about 15 pounds at 249 pounds and still managed to test off the walls athletically.

Even after putting on a healthy amount of weight, Burns still ran a 4.53 second 40 yard dash with explosive splits at the 10 and 20 yard mark, showed great agility by hitting almost seven seconds flat on his three cone drill, and jumping 36 inches and over 10 feet on his vertical and broad jump respectively.

He even looked smooth dropping into coverage and breaking on the football performing the on-field linebacker drills at the combine as well. Burns is a freak, and with the eight overall pick, the Lions would be getting a steal.
