New England Patriots: Could Josh Rosen be Tom Brady’s heir?
By Randy Gurzi
With the Arizona Cardinals taking Kyler Murray and the Washington Redskins getting Dwayne Haskins, is the door open for Josh Rosen to be Tom Brady‘s heir with the New England Patriots?
After months of speculation, it actually happened. The Arizona Cardinals took Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray first overall which opens the door for 2018 first round pick Josh Rosen to be moved. It’s an unprecedented situation considering Rosen was a top-10 pick just a season ago — and general manager Steve Keim traded up for his services.
Regardless of your opinion on the move, it does mean Rosen will be on the move, and where he could be headed got a lot more convoluted when the Washington Redskins took Dwayne Haskins at No. 15. With the most-rumored destination off the board, the speculation as to where Rosen will go is anyone guess, but there’s one spot that makes an awful lot of sense.
That would be with the New England Patriots, who could use someone young to learn behind Tom Brady, who turns 42 this season. The Patriots have had their share of young quarterbacks come and go, but Brady has to be getting closer to the end of his career given his age — even if his play hasn’t been slipping. It also may not cost the Pats a whole lot of stock considering the lack of suitors remaining for his services.
For Rosen, it would also be a great situation even if it’s not ideal for him to head back to the bench after starting as a rookie. He would be able to get in with one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL and there’s no one better to study under as he aims to prove the Cardinals wrong for moving on from him so quickly.
It remains to be seen where Rosen will land, but this move seems to make the most sense and could serve each party well.
