2019 NFL Mock Draft: Redskins, Patriots trade up in at-the-buzzer projection
19. Tennessee Titans: Jerry Tillery, DT, Notre Dame
The Tennessee Titans are in an enviable position of having a mid-first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, but also not having any glaring holes that they need to address. That isn’t to say that this is a team without needs, but rather to say that general manager Jon Robinson can take his guy and not be concerned with possibly reaching to make that pick. That pick in this mock draft is Jerry Tillery out of Notre Dame.
Tillery is being slept on a bit in this draft class, but the former Fighting Irish defensive tackle has tremendous prowess as an interior pass-rusher and seems ideally suited to play up front for Tennessee next to Jurrell Casey. Adding Tillery to the mix up front helps maximize what the likes of Casey and second-year edge rusher Harold Landry can do up front and gives Tennessee an even more formidable defense.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU
With the only two viable first-round options at linebacker coming off of the board early in this mock draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision becomes quite easy. Despite trying to address the secondary in recent years, the unit is still lacking. And with their pick of whatever defensive back that they could want, they go after the physical prototype of the modern NFL corner, Greedy Williams out of LSU.
Williams has been put through the pre-draft ringer by scouts to this point, having his tackling, effort and much more put into question. Those concerns are fair, but they shouldn’t be mentioned without also talking about the former Tiger’s ability to cover just about any receiver given his immense length and speed on the outside. If Pittsburgh can keep him engaged and motivated, they get a stud prospect that could revitalize a needing secondary.
