2019 NFL Mock Draft: Redskins, Patriots trade up in at-the-buzzer projection
29. Seattle Seahawks (via Chiefs): Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
With the pick that the Seahawks received in the Frank Clark trade, which gives them five now in the 2019 draft, Seattle could go a number of different ways. However, they have to address a secondary that is looking uncharacteristically questionable at this point. With Earl Thoms, Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman all gone, there are question marks throughout this group, which is why Byron Murphy is the selection at No. 29.
While Murphy is not the ideal big-bodied corner that Seattle normally covets, he’s the best coverage player in this draft in regards to his tape. He’s not a tremendous athlete, which was shown with his athletic testing, but sometimes you have to trust what you see on film and the Washington product has the best tape in this corner class. As such, that makes him a first-round pick that Seattle could use on the outside immediately.
30. Green Bay Packers (via Saints): Nasir Adderley, S, Delaware
Some people may scoff at the notion of the Green Bay Packers taking a safety prospect known for his physicality after the team signed Adrian Amos in free agency, but Nasir Adderley is a different type of player. Though he played at FCS’ Delaware for his collegiate career, the safety prospect revealed himself as an imposing athlete that is indeed a physical, hard-hitting player, but also as a player with potential to be much more than that.
Possessing elite athleticism and solid speed, it appears that Adderley simply needs refinement in reps in a coverage role to succeed in that regard. The physical traits necessary for that to be the case are undeniably there for the former Blue Hen, it’s just about developing him. Green Bay continues to rebuild their defense with that in mind by taking Adderley with their second first-round selection.
