2019 NFL Draft: Grades for every first-round pick
11. Cincinnati Bengals: Jonah Williams, OL, Alabama
Grade: B+
Nice, safe first-round pick for the Cincinnati Bengals as they snag Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams at No. 11. Williams is not the most exciting offensive line prospect, but he is a reliable player who is going to be effective at the next level.
Williams is a technically sound offensive lineman who shines in all aspects of offensive line play. He is a mobile player who reaches the second-level extremely well and consistently takes care of his target. He is relatively powerful at the point of attack, showing the ability to move big defensive linemen off of their spot and away from his ball carriers.
In pass protection, Williams shines against both power and speed. He understands angles extremely well and can cut off speed rushers coming off of the edge. He also keeps a solid base, anchoring well against power in the bull rush.
There are concerns about Williams’ lack of arm length, making many question whether he will actually be able to play tackle at the next level. Personally, I think Williams’ well-rounded game gives him a strong chance to play tackle at the next level. Worst case, the Bengals could kick him inside where he becomes a likely future Pro Bowl selection.
