2019 NFL Draft: Grades for every first-round pick
13. Miami Dolphins: Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson
Grade: B+
The Miami Dolphins are in undoubtedly in complete rebuild mode. Every position is on the board for this team in the 2019 NFL Draft so building from the inside out makes plenty of sense. Their selection of Christian Wilkins at number 13 is one that I can immediately get behind.
Wilkins was an extremely productive defensive tackle who shows an impressive combination of size, power and quickness on the inside. He is a tough and physical player who possesses the ability to dominate against the run and create pressure on the quarterback from the inside.
The Clemson product has real upside as a one-gap penetrator, quickly moving up the field and putting stress on the offensive line. He has a powerful initial punch, quick hands and can bend extremely well for an interior player. On top of that, he shows the strength and understands how to hold up as a two-gap defender against the run.
The Dolphins need leaders and strong character players to build their team around and Wilkins undoubtedly fits the bill. He is considered to be an extremely high character player who is going to show up lead the locker room. For a team that is trying to rebuild on and off the field, Wilkins is an ideal selection.
