2019 NFL Draft: Grades for every first-round pick
22. Philadelphia Eagles: Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State
Grade: A-
For a team like the Philadelphia Eagles, draft for the long-term certainly makes sense. The Eagles are loaded with talent on both sides of the all, and while they have position needs, they are not as dire as most NFL teams. With this in mind, the Eagles used this opportunity to trade up and land an undervalued player who could be extremely important for them down the line.
In the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Eagles traded the 25th overall pick and two fourth-round selections to the Baltimore Ravens to select Washington State offensive tackle Andre Dillard.
Dillard is the more pure left tackle prospect in this draft class. He played in a pass-happy offense in college and showed an impressive overall skill set as a pass blocker. He has quick feet, a strong initial punch and remains balanced throughout his pass sets. Dillard’s mobility and athleticism will translate well to the next level as he has a chance to be a true franchise left tackle.
Jason Peters is not getting any younger and the Eagles had to find a way to protect Carson Wentz long-term. After 2019, Dillard and Lane Johnson will likely bookend the Eagles’ offensive line, leading an awfully impressive unit. Great pick by the Eagles here as they look forward and solidify a future need.
