2019 NFL Draft: Grades for every first-round pick
31. Atlanta Falcons: Kaleb McGary, OL, Washington
Grade: B+
Trades were coming fast and furious at the end of the first round with the Los Angeles Rams trading out of the 31st overall pick. In this trade, the Atlanta Falcons sent the Rams picks 45 and 79 in exchange for 31 and 203. After trading up, Atlanta made the selection of Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary.
McGary only played right tackle in college and has a chance to stick at the position at the next level. He is a power-based player who can dominate at the point of attack and keeps his feet moving throughout the block. McGary is also an extremely smart and competitive player who is always looking for work and understands his responsibility.
He is a limited athletic who may struggle with speed rushers in the NFL, but McGary understands pass protection well, keeping a solid base and remaining patient throughout the play. He at least has a chance to stick at right tackle in the NFL.
At worst, McGary should be able to kick inside where his lack of mobility would not be as much of an issue. He is a powerful offensive lineman who was a nice value selection late in the first round. The Falcons may have completely solidified their offensive line on Thursday night, adding both McGary and Chris Lindstrom into the mix.
