The Washington Redskins traded up for the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and selected Montez Sweat. Grading the pick.

The Washington Redskins struck gold with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft when quarterback Dwayne Haskins fell to them. With that falling into place perfectly, they clearly are ready to accelerate their rebuild. With that in mind, they traded up with the Indianapolis Colts for the 26th overall pick. With that pick, the Redskins selected Montez Sweat.

In exchange for the pick, the Redskins traded their second-round pick from this year (46th overall) and their 2020 second-round pick.

Sweat has been considered one of the best pass-rushers in the draft. A heart condition popped up at the combine, however, which caused some teams to balk on him. That’s given the Redskins an elite pass-rusher after drafting their franchise quarterback.

Sweat is billed at 6-6, 260 pounds, but he also runs a 4.41-second 40-yard dash. If you need anything else to convince you, he was a tight end at Michigan State before going to Mississippi State. The skill is there, the size is there. There’s nothing about Sweat not to absolutely love.

Washington found a way to get the best quarterback of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 15th overall pick without having to trade up. Now, they’ve given up very little to select the best pass-rusher in the NFL Draft with the 26th overall pick.

Pairing him with Ryan Kerrigan is a death wish for the rest of the NFC East. This is an exciting move that makes the Redskins young stud-filled front seven even better. Seriously, think about this: Da’Ron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Kerrigan, Sweat, Reuben Foster — that’s a disgusting front for Washington.

This is absolutely another massive steal and another A+ grade for the Redskins. I still believe getting Haskins at 15th overall was the best pick of the NFL Draft so far. However, getting Sweat at 26 isn’t all that far behind. The Washington Redskins are absolutely killing this draft.

Final Grade: A+
