Green Bay Packers: Grades for every 2019 NFL Draft pick
By Joe Kipp
Round 5, Pick 150: Kingsley Keke, DT, Texas A&M
Grade: A
Kingsley Keke checks off all the boxes from a need, fit and athletic standpoint. Keke will more than likely fill in as a rotational pass rusher on third-down. He also has the ability to stop the run, giving Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark the opportunity for a breather every few series.
Speaking of Daniels, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities Keke is Daniels’ replacement after this season. Daniels’ current deal expires after 2019, which is why this pick makes a lot of sense, especially in round five. Keke is an excellent value this late in the draft.
At 6-3 and 288 pounds, Keke showed off his explosiveness at the NFL Combine with a 4.95-second 40-yard dash and 31.5-inch vertical — both exceptional numbers for a man of his stature. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein called him a “fluid, impressive athlete” who can “play light on his feet”. Zierlein had him pegged as a third- to fourth-rounder.
Mike Pettine has talked several times about the importance of being able to rush the passer from any angle and position. Keke fits the bill as a versatile athlete who can line up anywhere on the defensive line. He lined up at defensive end, nose tackle and defensive tackle as both a pass rusher and run stuffer last season. He was a three-year starter at Texas A&M and recorded 51 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 2018.
