2. Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama

Mack Wilson was a big name at Alabama but it’s obvious that he wasn’t as high on NFL draft boards as it may have seemed. Wilson, who struggled in his last game against the Clemson Tigers, remains on the board with Saturday approaching.

Wilson is a cerebral player who always finds himself around the ball. He understands his role in the defense and is rarely caught out of position. However, there’s some concern that he’s a product of the system he plays in — which could explain how he has yet to hear his name called. Even with that concern, his slide is somewhat surprising considering the lack of elite talent at middle linebacker in this class.

1. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida

Lastly, we have Florida safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson who somehow is still waiting to find out where he’s going to play in the NFL. At 5-11 and 210 pounds, Gardner-Johnson is built to play safety and has had success in deep coverage while also shining when playing in the box. His tape is inconsistent though, with him playing better in coverage in 2017 than 2018 and reversing this for run support in those same years.

None of that is concerning enough to explain his drop, but there were whispers that he didn’t do as well in interviews as expected leading up to the draft. Whatever the reason for the fall, some team is going to be thrilled to land him. This kid has starter written all over him.
