The Washington Redskins headed into Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft with two third-round picks. They ended the day with just one selection, but added more for Day 3. How would the day get graded overall though?
The Washington Redskins absolutely won the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. They managed to get Dwayne Haskins falling to the 15th overall pick, getting their franchise quarteraback without having to trade up. Then they traded back up into the first round and stole pass rusher Montez Sweat with the 26th pick.
With that in mind, the excitement was high for Day 2 and what the Redskins could possibly pull off for an encore. They didn’t disappoint.
The Redskins entered the day with two third-round picks. They had picks No. 76 and 96. The 76th overall pick was used, but the 96th was traded away. With No. 76, Washington brought in a familiar face for Haskins, Terry McLaurin, a wide receiver who played with Haskins at Ohio State.
McLaurin is lightning fast, and can play both inside and out. He’s a superb blocker and will help the Redskins offense in more than just the passing game due to that trait.
The receiver helps the Redskins at a position that they absolutely needed. He also fulfills Haskins’ wish of bringing in someone he played with in college. This keeps him happy immediately, as well as gives him more help right from the jump (if he starts).
Draft Grade: A-
Washington then sent the 96th pick to the Buffalo Bills for two fourth-round picks (No. 112 and 131). That was a fantastic trade as it gives them more ammo to retool later.
The Redskins are having an amazing draft, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they have quite a few glaring holes. Stock-piling more draft picks gives them even more chances to absolutely nail picks and fill those holes.
Trade Grade: B+ / Final Day 2 Grade: A-
