2019 NFL Draft: Top 5 Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates
By Jeremy Klump
2. Dwayne Haskins, QB, Washington Redskins (Round 1, Pick 15)
Just like with the Sanders vs. Jacobs debate, you thought this was going to be Murray, but it isn’t. The top quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft was Dwayne Haskins and the Washington Redskins somehow got him with the 15th overall pick. Listen, I know, Murray is so much fun to watch and is a wildcard, but I love quarterbacks who can sit in the pocket and carve you up. That is exactly what Haskins can do.
If you do not get a pass rush on Haskins, he will be surgical and dominate you. The big knock on him is that he can’t move well and isn’t mobile, but I think he will move well enough to succeed in the NFL. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith may think he is a running quarterback and will not succeed in the NFL because of it, but Stephen A. missed the part where Haskins was the most accurate passer in the draft.
The way he throws the ball is so effortlessly and it is honestly beautiful to watch. Washington has to face Carson Wentz two times a year. However, they now have to make the Eagles say they need to face Haskins twice a year. They finally have a good quarterback and they get Derrius Guice back from a torn ACL this year, along with Adrian Peterson at running back. Haskins has a nice core to lean on and has a good shot to win Rookie of the Year because of it.
