2019 NFL Draft: Top 5 Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates
By Jeremy Klump
1. Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals (Round 1, Pick 1)
Again, just like the Sanders vs. Jacobs debate, I feel that Haskins is the better player, but Kyler Murray has the better shot at winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Arizona Cardinals were a dumpster fire last year, mainly because Josh Rosen was not the guy, among other reasons. He never jumped off the screen to me as a guy that leads by example and has the demeanor you want from a franchise quarterback.
Murray is the exact opposite. He plays with true passion and he is a leader on the field. Murray won the Heisman Trophy because he is electric on the field. He can gash you through the air or he can run circles around you.
The biggest question for Murray is if he can handle the NFL at his size. Saying he is small for a quarterback doesn’t truly sell it because he is going to be the smallest starting quarterback in the NFL. It is rare to see a quarterback of his size taken so high, but the Cardinals believe in him and seem to have a plan for him.
He has some great weapons and an elite running back in David Johnson to lean on. If he can stay healthy and play with the big boys, Murray is the clear-cut favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
