30 greatest NFL team rivalries of all-time
By Dan Parzych
16. Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings
No matter what sport it is, watching a franchise player end up on a rivalry team later in their career is always a difficult pill to swallow.
To this day, it still doesn’t seem real that Brett Favre spent the end of his career as a member of the Minnesota Vikings after a Pro Football Hall of Fame career as a member of the Green Bay Packers.
What’s even more crazy to think about is how close Favre was to helping the Vikings pull off the unthinkable by almost leading Minnesota to the Super Bowl during the 2009 season. The team lost in overtime during the NFC Championship to the New Orleans Saints.
Some critics still question Favre’s decision to play for the Vikings after all of his accomplishments with the Packers throughout his career, but also the quarterback deserves credit for his passion with the game.
Most football fans rightfully view the Chicago Bears as the main rival for Green Bay, but they’ll never forget how the Vikings did the unthinkable by convincing Favre to come on board when they did.
On a positive note, at least the Packers still made out well when considering Favre’s replacement in Aaron Rodgers will most likely end up in Canton one day as well, showing all the Vikings stuff may have been actually worth it.
