30 greatest NFL team rivalries of all-time
By Dan Parzych
30. Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Coming up short of the playoffs last season was frustrating for obvious reasons when it comes to both the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars. But if all goes well, both teams will be in the hunt for the AFC South title in 2019.
This rivalry may not be as old as some of the others across the league. The two teams didn’t officially meet for the first time until 1995 when Jacksonville was an expansion team, but things would quickly take off.
Back in 1999, the Jaguars had their eyes set on earning a trip to the Super Bowl after finishing on top of the division. The Titans robbed them of the opportunity by defeating them 33-14 in the AFC Championship down in Jacksonville.
As football fans remember, this was the same year in which Tennessee pulled off the memorable “Music City Miracle” in the Wild Card Round to defeat the Buffalo Bills. Looking back on it, the No. 1-seeded Jaguars most likely wish The Miracle never happened.
Heading into 2019, there’s nothing the Jaguars and Titans would love more than to earn another trip to the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. Of course, that will be easier said than done if they’re standing in each other’s way.
