30 greatest NFL team rivalries of all-time
By Dan Parzych
24. Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans
Before the Tennessee Titans made the move to Nashville in 1999, the team was in Texas as the Houston Oilers.
Three years later, the Houston Texans became an expansion team during the 2002 season, while starting a new rivalry with their former team in the Titans during the process.
Throughout NFL history, there have been a few situations like this one: a city that had a team receiving an opportunity to take on a new one. Houston fans have to be beyond thankful for the Texans.
In the all-time series, the Titans currently have the advantage over the Texans with an 18-16 record, but there’s no question that Houston has been the most successful team as of late.
While Tennessee has done a phenomenal job building a strong team around Marcus Mariota over the last couple of years, Houston is arguably in better shape with Deshaun Watson leading the way on offense and J.J. Watt continuing to step up on defense.
As for what this rivalry will have in store for 2019, well, with both teams already looking like two strong contenders in the AFC South, it’s certainly going to be exciting to watch play out. Both teams seem capable of winning the division title.
