1. Broncos have nothing to lose starting Lock right away
Words can’t even describe how frustrating it’s been for the Broncos over the last three years to come up shy of reaching the playoffs since the argument can be made that with a reliable quarterback, they could have earned trips to the postseason.
Going back to the days when Manning was still under center, Denver had a reputation for having a top defense in the league thanks to the presence and leadership of Von Miller along with a few other key players.
However, a defense like the Broncos can only do so much on their own without the proper support from the other side of the football, and there have been plenty of times over the last three years in which the unit put together a strong performance, only to watch the offense come up short.
Like most rookie quarterbacks, Lock would most likely experience plenty of ups and downs during his first NFL season if he were to see early action, but Denver is a team with nothing to lose at this point.
Plus, with the Broncos having a handful of young talent to work with at wide receiver, Denver should recognize the importance of the rookie quarterback developing the necessary chemistry to bring out the best in this offense, so this idea really isn’t all that crazy to consider.
