1. Safety

Even after signing free agent Adrian Amos and drafting Darnell Savage in the first round of the 2019 draft, the safety position is far from being a strength on the Packers’ roster. Sure, both moves are a fantastic place to start, but there’s plenty of work to do as the offseason winds on.

The depth behind Savage and Amos includes Josh Jones, Raven Greene, Tray Matthews and Jason Thompson. Cornerback Tramon Williams also filled in at free safety last season and may do so again in certain defensive packages this coming season.

Entering his third year, Jones will need to step up in a big way during training camp and the preseason or his roster spot may be up for grabs. The former second-rounder has been fairly disappointing thus far in his pro career.

Greene, a rookie undrafted free agent last season, played mainly on special teams but showed some flashes when asked to fill in at safety. Neither Thompson or Matthews saw snaps for the Packers last year, as both were signed from the practice squad at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Based on the current depth chart, the Packers may want to look into signing a free agent safety to ensure they have plenty of depth going into the 2019 season. Intriguing options still available on the market include Tre Boston, Eric Berry, Glover Quin and Darian Stewart.
