Washington Redskins: Grading every 2019 NFL Draft pick
By Hunter Noll
Round 3, Pick 76: Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio State
The Washington Redskins wasted little time beefing up the weapons for Dwayne Haskins. With their first pick in Day 2, they drafted wide receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin just so happened to play at Ohio State with Haskins. Let’s not pretend like that played a major role, though, as he definitely deserved to be selected here regardless of his rapport with Haskins
McLaurin is lightning fast and can play both inside and out. He’s a superb blocker and will help the Redskins offense in more than just the passing game due to that trait. The receiver helps the Redskins at a position that they absolutely needed. He also fulfills Haskins’ wish of bringing in someone he played with in college. This keeps him happy immediately, as well as gives him more help right from the jump (if he starts).
For reference, McLaurin is 6-0, 208 pounds. He might not be massive, but by no means is he a “tiny” target. That being said, the size didn’t hinder his speed. The receiver ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine. Due to that, he’ll be able to burn any defender for long touchdowns. He’ll also be extremely effective on short routes and routes across the middle of the field though.
The Redskins hit another home run with this pick as they upgraded their receiver corps pretty fast (pun intended).
Final Grade: A-
