Safety (5)

Xavier Woods, George Iloka, Jeff Heath, Donovan Wilson, Kavon Frazier

After landing Robert Quinn and Trysten Hill in the offseason, the biggest need left on the Dallas roster is at safety. They seem set at free safety with Xavier Woods manning that spot. He’s entering his third season in the league and has already had some big moments — including several key stops in their first win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

At strong safety, they landed George Iloka in free agency. Considering he signed a one-year deal, it seemed as though they would still address the position in the draft. That didn’t happen until the sixth round, which is when they picked Texas A&M safety Donovan Wilson. He’s a hard hitter who will likely make the team for his special teams play but likely has to develop as a coverage safety to see the field on base defense.

All that being said feels reminiscent of Kavon Frazier, who has been a similar player. Frazier is a stud on special teams and could thrive as an in the box safety. However, he hasn’t become a full-time starter since Dallas prefers to use their safeties deep more often.

Lastly, we have the GOAT — Jeff Heath. A former undrafted free agent signing out of Saginaw Valley State, Heath has become a fan favorite. He understands his role more than anyone and has been able to start the past two seasons and keep the defense afloat.

With Iloka on the roster, he can return to his role in sub packages, which allows him to be more of a playmaker. Heath is also the best special teams player on the roster and even filled in at kicker in the past, which only served to grow his legend.
