1. Chris Westry, CB, Kentucky

When you think about the type of big defensive back that Kris Richard obviously covets, it’s not shocking to see him go after and land a player like Chris Westry. The Kentucky product stands at 6-4 and weighs in at just a hair under 200 pounds with incredible length, measuring with nearly 34-inch arms.

It’s more than just his size that should intrigue Richard and the Cowboys defense, though. When testing at his pro day, Westry put on an absolute show. The cornerback put up a 4.31-second time in the 40-yard dash while also notching a 38-inch vertical, per A Sea of Blue. Put simply, this is a young player that not only fits the height-weight marks that Richard likes, but has insane athleticism to go with that.

When you look back on Westry’s time with the Wildcats, though, it’s also not difficult to see why he wasn’t drafted out of 254 selections. Though he played in every game over his four-year career, he didn’t notch an interception in either of his final two seasons. He’s quite clearly a ball of clay that needs to be molded and coached up before he’s able to contribute to an NFL defense.

While that may be true, the Cowboys and Richard clearly value what he can be, signing him to a contract with $100,000 guaranteed. With tough decisions looming in the near future regarding the Dallas secondary, Westry could indeed stick around as someone to groom to step in should the Cowboys lose bodies in the secondary.
