1. G Justin McCray

Did the Packers sign Justin McCray’s one-year tender? Yes. Would that stop them from cutting him after drafting Elgton Jenkins and seeing Cole Madison return? No.

McCray was one of the worst guards in the NFL last season. He was given the chance to start at the right guard spot. He lost that opportunity less than three games into the year and he only got the job back because his backup Byron Bell was just as bad as he was.

You have to keep your quarterback upright, and you can’t do that if you have one of your offensive linemen consistently laying face down in the dirt. Green Bay went about fixing that with Jenkins in the draft. Whether that was a message to push Lane Taylor at the left guard spot or it’s an indication that Billy Turner will be moving to right tackle after this season, it’s bad news for McCray’s chances.

The team has two guys that can play inside on the second unit, and they have a couple of backup swing tackles. McCray’s experience is something they could value and choose to keep him on, but they don’t need to with the growing number of quality reserves that they have. If one of their offensive linemen get cut, it could easily be McCray.
