Round 4: Sheldrick Redwine, S, Miami

Another pick which seemed like a bit of a reach, the Browns took Sheldrick Redwine, safety out of the University of Miami in the fourth round. However, it seemed like Day 3 of the draft was a crapshoot as some guys projected to go undrafted were drafted early in the day and some who were supposedly risers went undrafted.

While the Browns took Takitaki in the third round, they could have selected Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, safety from the University of Florida instead. The theme of this year’s draft for Dorsey was prioritizing athleticism over production and film.

At 6-0 and nearly 200 pounds, Redwine ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at the combine while nailing a 39-inch vertical jump and 10-10 foot broad jump. While he has poor size, his speed and explosiveness are enough to make the Browns covet him after trading Peppers in the Odell Beckham Jr. trade.

Redwine will be expected to come in and start day-one and may see the most playing time in year one of any of their draft picks in this year’s class. However, it is a tough task for a fourth-round pick who was not projected as a top-five safety to come in and do.
