Round 6: Drew Forbes, OT, Southeastern Missouri State

The feature of Sports Illustrated’s “Prospect X,” the Browns made Southeastern Missouri State offensive tackle Drew Forbes their sixth-round selection. At this point in the draft, it is mainly throwing darts at the wall and hoping to hit, and with Forbes, Cleveland may have found a tackle of the future.

While there was speculation Forbes may play guard in the NFL due to his size, the Browns have him listed as a tackle on their roster. Forbes is one of the more athletic offensive big men in the draft class and, as a result, the small school prospect got his name called.

At 6-4.5 and 308 pounds, Forbes put on a show at his pro day after failing to receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine at the beginning of March. At his pro day, the big man ran a sub-five-second 40-yard dash and, in addition, displayed great explosiveness with his vertical (30.5 inches) and broad jumps (8-11).

The good news for Forbes is he has the luxury to sit for a year as Greg Robinson and either Kendall Lamm or Chris Hubbard start at the tackles while he soaks in the coaching of James Campen. Look for Forbes to see the field in 2020 after the Browns more than likely move on from both Robinson and Hubbard.
