Philadelphia Eagles: Zach Brown finishes Howie Roseman’s masterpiece
By Jeremy Klump
The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Washington Redskins linebacker Zach Brown, which completes their championship roster.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a statue of Nick Foles after his impressive run to win the Super Bowl in 2017, and deservedly so. However, the next statue that needs to be put up in Philadelphia is future Hall of Fame general manager, Howie Roseman. His actual title is Executive Vice President of Football Operations, but Roseman is regarded as the GM of the Eagles and he is arguably the best GM in football, and maybe even sports right now.
On Friday, Roseman signed former Washington Redskins linebacker Zach Brown. The former Redskin was rated as the No. 3 linebacker last season, according to Pro Football Focus on Twitter. Also, he has shown the last three seasons that he is one of the most consistent linebackers in the NFL.
His 2016 season was his best, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro honors. Last season, Brown had 96 tackles, with 20 of those coming against the Eagles in the two games they played. He also added 25 tackles against the Eagles in 2017, so the Eagles are well aware of his ability to fly around the field.
Philadelphia’s biggest hole on their roster was linebacker, especially after failing to select one in the 2019 NFL Draft. Although, if you know Roseman and the way he works, you knew he wouldn’t enter the 2019 season with such a glaring hole, hence the Brown signing. This is obviously a great move, mainly because of the hole that it fills, but it also does something else; it completes a championship roster and cements the Eagles as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Brown will plug into a starting role next to Nigel Bradham, as the Eagles love to use two linebackers all season. The combination of Brown and Bradham is a good one, too.
Jordan Hicks left the Eagles in free agency to join the Arizona Cardinals and many people were worried it would be hard to replace Hicks. Well, they do not know Roseman, who has shown on countless occasions he is the best at what he does. Roseman replaced Hicks, with someone even better, and for less money.
It has been a fun offseason to watch Roseman trade for DeSean Jackson and Jordan Howard, sign Malik Jackson, re-sign some of their own key players, dominate in the 2019 NFL Draft, and now sign Brown. Roseman has been creating something special in Philadelphia this season and he has officially finished his masterpiece.
