The kicking problem is far from resolved

While there was a lot of positive vibes during minicamp, there was one negative that kind of overtook the positives — the kicking woes. As I mentioned earlier, the Bears brought in a bunch of kickers to compete for the job. Nagy and Pace feel competition will bring out the best of the eight kickers in camp and that will make the winner that much better.

Well, that did not work out as planned. Nagy had all the kickers attempt a field goal from 43 yards out. For those who don’t know the significance, that is where Parkey missed his attempt that cost the Bears a playoff win.

Knowing how important that kick was, you’d think the kickers were motivated enough to make their mark, right? Wrong. Six of the eight kickers missed that kick. Nagy was not happy with that:

To be fair, later on, six of the eight kickers made that kick, but the damage from the opening debacle was already done. At the end of the weekend, the Bears parted ways with six of the eight kickers. Only Chris Blewitt and Elliott Fry survived and now will battle each other for the job. In the background, though, lies Robbie Gould and his contract fight with the San Francisco 49ers.

All in all, it was a good weekend for the Chicago Bears. They got a long look at their new players and have a better idea of what’s to come when the entire team starts camp. Hopefully, this is the beginning of another successful season and much happiness for Bears fans around the world.
