1. Trysten Hill, Defensive Tackle

When the Cowboys were on the clock at No. 58 (finally) there was a collection of safeties available for them to draft. After using six of their pre-draft visits on the position, it also seemed highly likely that this would be the direction they would go — with Virginia’s Juan Thornhill looking like the best option.

That wasn’t the case though as the Cowboys turned their card in with the name of Trysten Hill on it. The UCF defensive tackle may not have been the fan favorite selection but he does fill a massive need as a three-technique defensive tackle. He also has the ability to completely take a game over when he’s locked in.

The problem is, he wasn’t always locked in during his time at UCF which led to him sitting for most of the Fiesta Bowl which came after he had three tackles for a loss in their conference championship game.

With that being said, Hill comes to the team with the dreaded “if” tag: If he can be focused, if he can mature some, if he can be coached up, etc. The good news in that regard is defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has made a career out of getting players like Hill to reach their potential. Also, Hill has been pumped about getting to work with Marinelli which is a great sign.

In the end, look for Hill to be on the field a lot as a rookie. even if he doesn’t start, he will be heavily in the rotation and should be the team’s most impactful rookie in 2019.
