1. CB Nate Hairston

The Colts brought back Pierre Desir. They drafted Rock Ya-Sin and Marvell Tell. They already have Kenny Moore II and Quincy Wilson. In addition to those five players, they also brought in Jalen Collins. The former Atlanta Falcon showed some promise in college, but he hasn’t lived up to the potential in his young career.

That’s six guys that they have at the cornerback position, and Nate Hairston hasn’t shown nearly enough consistency to deserve another shot after two uninspiring years.

Through two seasons, Hairston has just one interception and six pass breakups. He’s also been mostly a slot cornerback to this point in his career and both Ya-Sin and Moore are better options at that spot than Hairston is.

Indianapolis is looking to get bigger and more physical at cornerback. Ya-Sin is a former high-school wrestling champ and Moore played bigger than the 5-9 that he was listed at with much better ball skills, as evidenced by his four picks over the last two years.

As the Colts look to continue rebuilding their defense, you have to be able to stop opposing passers. That means you need to be able to rush the passer, and the cornerbacks have to stay in coverage long enough to allow the rush to get there. Hairston doesn’t have the ceiling that some of the other corners do, so it’d be wise for Indianapolis to move on from him now rather than later.
