WR Dontrelle Inman (from Indianapolis Colts)

A year ago, it was running back James White who led the New England Patriots with 87 catches and seven scoring receptions. Wide receiver Julian Edelman finished second with 74 grabs and a half-dozen touchdowns. And since-retired tight end Rob Gronkowski was third on the club, snaring 47 passes for 682 yards (14.5 average) and three touchdowns.

This offseason, Cordarrelle Patterson left for Chicago via free agency and eventually Chris Hogan signed with the Carolina Panthers. The team brought back Philip Dorsett, added Maurice Harris (Washington Redskins), signed Demaryius Thomas — cut loose by the Houston Texans — and used a first-round pick on Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry. The team also awaits news on the future of Josh Gordon.

But the addition of unsung Dontrelle Inman is intriguing indeed. A year ago, he wasn’t with the Indianapolis Colts very long but he made a solid impression. In nine regular-season contests with Frank Reich’s team, he totaled 28 receptions for 304 yards and three touchdowns. In two postseason tilts, he racked up eight catches for 108 yards and one score.

While he has bounced around the league for various reasons and has played for three different teams, Inman has shown he can be a solid performer. And no doubt, he will find a role in Josh McDaniels’ offense and quarterback Tom Brady will make the most of his abilities.
