2020 NFL Draft: Roberts’ too-early mock draft for next year
By Ryan Roberts
21. Oakland Raiders (via Chicago): Isaiah Simmons, LB/S, Clemson
Right now, Vontaze Burfict is penciled into a starting linebacker spot for the Oakland Raiders. That is just not going to do it anymore, folks. This leaves a no brainer selection for the Raiders to select Isaiah Simmons out of Clemson. Simmons is a former top safety recruit who has continued to fill out his body. Now standing at 6-4 and 225 pounds, Simmons has a body that could potentially play multiple linebacker spots.
This spot could possibly be far too low based upon Simmons athletic profile. Very simply, the young man is a freak. I wouldn’t doubt that a top-10 selection may very well be in his future.
22. Tennessee Titans: Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia
After a good two first seasons in Tennessee, quarterback Marcus Mariota has been a dud over the last couple years, clouding his future with the team. There is every possibility that Mariota is able to kick the injury bug and recapture some magic from early in his career. Unfortunately, I am a prisoner of recency bias…and the recent is not good for Mariota.
With the 22nd selection, the Titans receive a draft slide in Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm. Fromm has every intangible to develop into a good NFL quarterback but is threatened to fall due to the absence of a spectacular trait. The steady trigger man would be a huge find for an incredibly talented team at this juncture in the draft.
