2020 NFL Draft: Roberts’ too-early mock draft for next year
By Ryan Roberts
5. New York Giants: A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa
With Kentucky edge Josh Allen still on the board, the pass rushing starved Giants chose to secure their quarterback of the future in Daniel Jones, but also ignored the need again with the 17th pick as they selected nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.
A year later with similar needs, the Giants land their high ceiling pass rusher in Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa. A high upside prospect, Epenesa is just scratching his potential after recording 16.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks as a true sophomore.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Laviska Shenault Jr., WR, Colorado
The Jacksonville Jaguars handed out a big contract this offseason to former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. Foles has traditionally valued big body wideouts who have the ability to make plays on the football in contested situations.
Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault has shown this ability in spades but also doubles as a YAC machine who is a threat to turn every opportunity into a big play. After a breakout sophomore season that saw Shenault record 1,126 and 11 total touchdowns in only nine games, Shenault only needs to answer injury concerns that cost him three full games this past season. Shenault may end up being the offensive playmaker that everyone wanted Cordarelle Patterson to be.
