Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway might be guilty of using some hyperbole when he said earlier in this offseason that Joe Flacco was entering his prime, but adding the 34-year old quarterback was a solid move. He’s an upgrade over Case Keenum, provided he stays healthy, and it only cost a mid-round pick.

They didn’t do much roster-wise outside of adding Flacco and the draft, but it was easily the best draft of Elway’s career. They landed a starting tight end in Noah Fant — after trading down and landing more picks. Then they took tackle Dalton Risner who will also be an early starter. With their second pick in Round 2, they added Drew Lock, who is a great prospect to groom behind Flacco.

The question about the team comes from their coaching hire. Vic Fangio was brought in to replace Vance Joseph, but it feels like Elway keeps making the same kind of hire. He’s had John Fox, Joseph, and now Fangio — all defensive-minded guys. His best success came though when he went with an offensive guy in Gary Kubiak, he won Super Bowl 50. Maybe the Fangio hire will work, but it feels like that might hold them back.
