Tennessee Titans

After going 9-7 and just missing the playoffs, the Tennessee Titans elected against wholesale changes. It wouldn’t have been crazy to see them decide to make a move under center with Marcus Mariota struggling with health and consistency. They couldn’t count on him when they needed him most last season and he has yet to get through a whole season without spending time on the sidelines. Not only that, but he’s managed just 24 touchdowns against 23 picks the past two seasons combined.

Rather than completely pull the plug, they decided to get him a backup who they feel can step in when he inevitably misses time. That player is Ryan Tannehill, who has similar issues with health and consistency as Mariota. Perhaps they believe they can get a full 16 games out of the two of them, but it still feels like a poor plan.

The good news is, they did get their signal-caller some help. In free agency, they landed slot receiver Adam Humphries who has been great for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s not the only addition there, as they landed A.J. Brown in the second round of the draft. There was also the additions of guard Nate Davis, safety Amani Hooker, and edge rusher D’Andre Walker. This was a solid haul, and that’s without even looking at Jeffery Simmons who went in Round 1 — but could miss most of the season (if not all) after tearing his ACL training for his pro day.

A good draft helped mitigate a poor start to the offseason. However, they didn’t fix their biggest problem which is under center.
