Seattle Seahawks: Best pick from every draft under John Schneider
By Samuel Teets
2014 – Justin Britt (64th overall)
2014 was another draft that was pretty much wasted by the Seahawks. The team’s top pick was wide receiver Paul Richardson (45th overall). Richardson played four years in Seattle, passing the 700-yard mark just once before heading to Washington last offseason where he underwhelmed before landing on IR.
Many of the other players the Seahawks selected in 2014 have similar stories. In fact, four of Seattle’s nine total selections from that year aren’t even in the league anymore. Besides Britt and Richardson, backup linebacker and special teams player Kevin Pierre-Louis (132nd overall) and defensive end Cassius Marsh (108th overall) have been the most successful members of this draft class.
Pierre-Louis spent three years in Seattle before he was traded to Kansas City where he had his best season as a pro in 2017. Marsh also spent three years with the Seahawks before being traded to New England. He recorded a career-high 5.5 sacks with the 49ers last season and recently signed a one-year, $1,850,000 contract with the Seahawks.
I went with Britt here because he’s started on the offensive line for the Seahawks every one of his five years as a professional. He plays center now, but he saw snaps at tackle and guard in his first two seasons in the league. Britt signed a three-year extension with the Seahawks back in 2017, and the deal will keep him in Seattle through the 2020 season. While Britt has been a consistent starter, he’s not a great lineman and could be replaced when his current deal ends.
