Looking at the Dallas Cowboys roster and trying to see which areas will be the most improved and where they may see a decline in performance
After a 10-6 campaign that ended with a divisional round loss, the Dallas Cowboys got back to work trying to rebuild their roster. Their goal was simple, fill their holes and look for ways to improve upon a team that has won the NFC East two of the past three seasons.
Their biggest move in that regard was to make sure they kept their most important defensive player — DeMarcus Lawrence. The star pass rusher put together two strong seasons in a row while looking for a new contract.
The first came in 2017 when he had 58 tackles and a career-high 14.5 sacks. Lawrence was then hit with the franchise tag which kept him in Big D for 2018. Another big season followed as he had 64 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and his first career interception.
After this campaign, things got dicey. Dallas hit him with another franchise tag and this time, Lawrence wasn’t as happy with it. Things started to turn sour and there was even the possibility of him being traded thrown on the table by his agent.
In the end, the two sides came to an agreement and D-Law is coming back, and most importantly, he’s happy about it.
This contract debate dominated most of the headlines for Dallas, but it was just one of many things going on as they addressed their roster through trade, free agency, and the 2019 NFL Draft. With all that now behind us, let’s take a moment to look back at where the Boys got better, where they didn’t, and where questions still remain.
