Green Bay Packers: Ranking the most underrated players on 2019 roster
By Joe Kipp
It’s not uncommon for good players to slip under the radar. Here are the Green Bay Packers’ five most underrated players heading into 2019.
Every team has players who slip under the radar and the Green Bay Packers are no exception. But just because the Packers have players who go unnoticed by the average fan doesn’t mean those players don’t play a key role. After all, without underrated players, teams wouldn’t have complete rosters.
In the NFL, teams are constantly looking to gain an edge at certain positions. Underrated players allow for this to happen. They typically come in the form of bargains or rising stars waiting for that next big contract. These are the types of players who are usually the unsung heroes or who play positions that don’t receive as much recognition.
But the Packers have plenty of players who receive recognition. Being a national brand helps out, especially when your star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, is known just as well for his appearances in TV shows and commercials as he is for his performances on the field. But like many other instances in life, not everyone can share the spotlight.
So what does it mean to be underrated? By our definition, underrated means not receiving warranted recognition for outstanding performance on the field. Many times this occurs when players aren’t stat-sheet-stuffers, but rather have an impact in other areas.
An example of one of the more underrated Packers of the past decade is running back James Starks. Not only did Starks fill in whenever he was needed, but he was a key veteran presence in the locker room and simply did whatever was asked of him.
Before moving on, it should be noted the following players may be known to some Packers fans, but not by the large majority of the rest of NFL fans. So without further ado, let’s show some love to these five underrated Packers.
