Green Bay Packers: Ranking the most underrated players on 2019 roster
By Joe Kipp
1. Kenny Clark
It doesn’t seem possible defensive lineman Kenny Clark could still be underrated after the type of season he had in 2019. But now entering his fourth year in the league, Clark has yet to be named to either a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team. Although he may not be known by fans of other teams, Packers fans are very familiar with what Clark is capable of.
Clark enjoyed his best season as a pro in 2018, racking up six sacks, 55 tackles and two forced fumbles in only 13 games. Even more impressive, Clark led all Packers defenders in total quarterback pressures (46) and run stops (28) last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Manning the interior, Clark (6-3, 314) has the athletic prowess of a 5-technique defensive lineman but primarily plays as a nose tackle. In other words, he can do things others simply can’t.
You could easily make a case that Clark is Green Bay’s best defender heading into 2019. And the best part is he doesn’t turn 24 years old until October, despite being drafted in the first round in 2016. Green Bay triggered the fifth-year option in Clark’s rookie deal last month, meaning he’ll be with the Packers at least through the end of the 2020 season.
If the Packers want to secure him long-term, however, they may need to strike an extension after 2019. The sky is the limit for Clark.
