Arizona Cardinals: 3 Reasons Kyler Murray, Kliff Kingsbury can change NFL
By Steve Rivera
Cultivating an organizational relationship
In a perfect world, quarterbacks and head coaches would have some kind of zen connection from day one. Take a look at the relationship in Los Angeles with Sean McVay and Jared Goff. That’s the relationship the Cardinals are banking on cultivating between Kingsbury and Murray.
It’s a lofty goal. Many, in the afterglow of what McVay and the Rams did in 2018, went looking for another McVay. Teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona are hoping to find that perfect cocktail. It’ll be hard. McVay inherited a combination of talent and motivation after Jeff Fisher. LA had some parts to work with, while the Cardinals still have some significant holes, especially on the offensive line.
Murray might be the kind of talent to overcome that. He’s a player who excels on the run, which is something he’ll do a lot of in Arizona.
Kingsbury will be — and should be — given a long leash. What’s happening in Arizona is an absolute reclamation project and 3-13 might not be too far off from where the Cardinals finish 2019. But for fans, that might be a good thing. Expectations are low and should be. Murray will bring excitement and hope. In Kingsbury’s offense, that may be a good start.
