Linebacker: Kwon Alexander, San Francisco 49ers

Contract: Four years, $54 million with $27.5 million guaranteed

Back in 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked brilliant for drafting Kwon Alexander. The LSU linebacker came into the NFL undersized but became an impact player right away for the Bucs. As a rookie, he had 93 tackles and two interceptions and then added another 145 tackles and a pick in his sophomore campaign.

Alexander continued to impress the past two seasons when on the field, but the problem is he’s missed a lot of time. In all, he’s missed 18 games in four seasons and is still overcoming a torn ACL from 2018. That makes giving him this huge contract rather risky.

Linebacker: Anthony Barr, Minnesota Vikings

Contract: Five years, $67.5 million with $33million guaranteed

The Minnesota Vikings are a good defense but they’re putting an awful lot of money into that. One player who just got paid an awful lot was Anthony Barr, the linebacker who nearly signed with the New York Jets. The Vikings decided they couldn’t lose him and made a last-second pitch, but this is a lot of money to give a player who struggles with consistency, especially for a team already stretched thin in the salary cap department.

Linebacker: Anthony Hitchens, Kansas City Chiefs

Contract: Five years, $45 million with $21.29 million guaranteed

Much like Kwon Alexander, Anthony Hitchens was a steal as a fourth-round pick. The Iowa product did a great job with the Dallas Cowboys over four seasons, but giving him $9 million per season seemed like a reach.

He did end up recording 135 tackles as he does have a nose for the football. However, he doesn’t make the kind of impact plays that his contract suggests. Like most players on this All-Overpaid roster, he’s a good player but just makes too much money.
